The first exhibition of the Annemarie Verna Galerie took place in April 1969. The year 1971 marked the first time we participated in the Art Basel fair. Over the subsequent decades, we have been present with an exhibition stand in Basel every year.
This connection between the history of our gallery and the history of Art Basel is of considerable significance to us. Without a doubt, we have developed a clear and distinct exhibition concept, which allows us to create special and new accents time and again. Hence, our most important group exhibition of the year is staged in Basel, and it is a matter of great importance to us to show each and every work in the appropriate manner and to integrate each work in the overall context.
For 2017 we are presenting an exhibition within our exhibition as a special focal point. It involves a group of thirteen works by Richard Tuttle (1941*) from 2015 bearing the title ‘Formal Alphabet A-M’. These brilliant pieces take up aspects that characterize his early works. We are reminded of ‘Alphabet’ in the holdings of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
James Bishop, who will be celebrating his ninetieth birthday this year, is represented with a large-format work from 1969 as well as paintings on paper.
Further important works by Antonio Calderara, Joseph Egan, Giorgio Griffa, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, Sylvia Plimack Mangold, Fred Sandback and Jerry Zeniuk along with other artists of the gallery round out our show.
We would also like to draw your attention to our exhibition in the gallery, which is especially worth a visit: Giorgio Griffa (1936*) Works 1972–1983
