Freunde – Friends

Looking back at over fifty years of gallery work and exhibition activity, the numerous resulting friendships have been an important and meaningful gift. Enduring friendships with artists over several decades are particularly valued, as they are by no means a matter of course.

Robert Mangold had his first solo exhibition with us in 1973. Richard Tuttle took part in the opening exhibition in 1974 following the gallery’s move to a new location. A representative selection of paintings by Sylvia Plimack Mangold was on view in 1978, showing her distinctive conceptual painting. A number of these works later found their way into the collections of important American museums. In 1981, we were able to present a retrospective of Andreas Christen’s work in a large exhibition space, which the gallery temporarily secured for several presentations. In 1992, Joseph Egan joined the gallery. After he came to Zurich on a studio scholarship, we were able to follow his artistic work more closely and with great interest.

The exhibition vividly documents the gallery’s history and present.
